In the role of political activist, Borglum writes: " ... I feel that the North Dakota victory is largely a personal one ... that shows how easy things can be accomplished, for I really did very little more than make butter out of conditions that are ripe all over the country for the same results." He refers to Harding's administration, which he thinks was "misdirecting our national affairs."
